Former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev vacated his 155-pound championship to move up to the welterweight division and challenge Jack Della Maddalena. For his legacy, Makhachev was chasing double-champ status.

The welterweight title fight headlined Saturday's UFC 322 fight card at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Dagestani dominated Della Maddalena to join the exclusive club of fighters who have achieved championships in two UFC divisions. Fellow double-champ and rival Ilia Topuria wasn't impressed Della Maddalena, or Makhachev's performance.

Following the fight, Topuria reacted via social media saying he was 'disappointed' in Della Maddalena before criticizing the newly crowned champion.

"Jack needs an entire camp dedicated just to wrestling. What a disappointment of a champion. You should go to Georgia to learn something," Topuria wrote on X.

"Islam, you need something you can’t train: emotion. You’re the most boring thing in this game. Every day I’m more certain I put you to sleep."

Topuria vacated his 155-pound title earlier this year chasing the same goal as Makhachev, winning a second UFC divisional title. After knocking out Alexander Vokanovski to win the featherweight championship, Topuria defended the belt by becoming the only fighter to knockout Max Holloway

He moved up to the 155-pound weight class and scored a third knockout in a row, flattening former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira in June. He wanted to face Makhachev, but Makhachev left the division for his aspirations at welterweight.
