Jon Jones has caused quite a stir on social media after re-entering the UFC’s drug testing pool just two weeks after announcing his retirement.
Jones retired as a two-weight UFC champion, having won belts at light heavyweight and heavyweight. He stopped Stipe Miocic in his last fight at UFC 309 to cap off a remarkable career. That has led some to rate him as the best of all time. However, there have been some question marks over his legacy. Jones has failed a test, while he has also been accused of ducking Tom Aspinall.
Aspinall was the longest interim champion in UFC history, as he was chasing Jones. Bones gave conflicting comments over his intention to fight Tom, stating that he did not need him. His decision to retire without fighting Tom meant the latter was elevated to the heavyweight champion. Aspinall’s opponent has not been announced, although there are suggestions he could face Ciryl Gane next.
However, Jones’ decision to enter the testing pool has raised a few eyebrows. This could increase speculation that Jones wants the Alex Pereira fight. He had said a fight with Pereira is much bigger globally, while Alex was also open to the idea of that fight. Pereira recently lost his UFC Light Heavyweight Title against Magomed Ankalaev.
That was his first loss at the weight class. While a rematch has been discussed, there have been no official announcements. And with Donald Trump’s recent announcement that he wants to hold a UFC event at the White House next year, Jones may be keeping his options open. Jones’ conduct has gotten fans talking.
“Does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White. We’re going to have a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there. Dana’s going to do it. Dana’s great, one of a kind. We’re going to have a UFC fight, a championship fight, like full fight, 20, 25,000 people and we’re going to do that as part of 250 also. We’re going to have some incredible events. Some professional events, some amateur events but the UFC fight’s going to be a big deal, too,” Trump said
Just re-entered the testing pool, that lasted for about two weeks. Figured we’d keep everyone’s options open.
