Islam Makhachev wasted no time going after Ilia Topuria following the featherweight's loss to Justin Gaethje.
The UFC lightweight champion posted to social media congratulating Gaethje on his win while taking aim at Topuria's corner stoppage. "He who exalts himself will be humbled," Makhachev wrote, per Sherdog. "There's levels in this game! Congratulations Justin, you deserve this belt more than anyone!"
Makhachev doubled down on the dig, writing that quitting in the biggest fight of a career "is something not everybody can do." He finished the post with "Real Le Layenda" and a laughing emoji, mocking Topuria's self-proclaimed nickname.
The jab comes after Topuria had built a reputation as one of the sport's most confident trash-talkers before his corner pulled him out between rounds against Gaethje. Makhachev's camp and Topuria's team have exchanged barbs in the past over potential superfights.
Gaethje has not yet announced his next move following the featherweight title win.
