Islam Makhachev Vows to Fulfill Fan’s Wish of Destroying Ilia Topuria

Both fighters have beefed for a long time now, but Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, understands the theatrics. Many believe that this fight could potentially come close to the mega clash between Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor at UFC 229. However, for now, all the speculations are on hold as both fighters are busy in their own division. 

Currently, the former pound-for-pound king is more focused on his training camp to fight the welterweight champion Jack Della Maddelena. According to reports, the fight will take place at the iconic Madison Square Garden event later this year. Despite being a fan favorite, Makhachev refuses to take risks, working tirelessly to achieve peak condition before his welterweight debut.

Makhachev revealed he currently weighs 191 pounds and aims to gain additional muscle mass before his intense training camp ends. For the Dagestani star, multiple finishing tools exist, ranging from sharp striking techniques to his world-class submission grappling skills.

UFC veteran believes Islam Makhachev can defeat Ilia Topuria 

Over the last few years, Ilia Topuria has successfully established dominance in the UFC, displaying unmatched power and confidence. His recent streak includes incredible knockouts over elite champions like Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Charles Oliveira, cementing his reputation.

Topuria’s unique ability to predict fight outcomes accurately adds intrigue, showcasing his sharp analytical skills and understanding of opponents. On top of his fighting brilliance, Topuria’s undeniable charisma and cocky personality elevate his marketability, making him a true superstar.

Currently, he’s deemed unstoppable and nobody expects anybody from the current lightweight slot to beat the ‘El Matador’. However, according to veteran commentator Jon Anik , Islam Makhachev has the best opportunity to do so in the future. 

I do think we’ll see Islam Makhachev back at 155 lbs. That’s a dream matchup. As for how it plays out, if I had to send anybody in there, maybe across two divisions, to beat Ilia Topuria right now, I would send Islam in there. I think he’s got a great shot.
