  • Recent interview hints at future superfight talks.
  • Fans speculate on what could be one of the biggest events in MMA history.

The Road to UFC 322

The build-up for UFC 322 is officially in full swing, and this one’s got double-champ potential written all over it. Islam Makhachev, fresh off a dominant run through lightweight, is moving up to 170 pounds to take on newly crowned champion Jack Della Maddalena. The event, set for November 15, 2025, marks Makhachev’s chance to join an elite club of fighters who’ve held titles in two divisions.

But as hype for the welterweight title clash builds, the lightweight king couldn’t help but hint at what might come next. In a recent interview with ESPN MMA, Makhachev opened up about the possibility of a future superfight—and he didn’t hold back.

Dana White Has to Pay for This’

When asked about facing Ilia Topuria, Makhachev made it clear he’s open to the idea—but on his own terms.
‘170 is going to be better for me. If I have to cut to 155, it’s going to be hard. Dana White has to pay for this,’ Makhachev said with a grin.

And when the conversation turned to the rumored White House MMA event planned for next year, Islam didn’t hesitate.
‘He want to fight in the White House, and I also want to be there. I think, yeah, it’s gonna be big for the MMA community. If UFC wants this fight, we can do this.’

The comments lit up social media, with fans immediately calling for a Topuria vs. Makhachev superfight—a battle that could pit the sport’s two most confident champions against each other in one of the most iconic venues imaginable.

Makhachev’s Dominant Reign

It’s not hard to see why Makhachev’s next move has fans buzzing. He’s been very good over his last several fights—racking up wins over Charles Oliveira, Alexander Volkanovski (twice), Dustin Poirier, and most recently, Renato Moicano. He’s finished four of his last five opponents, showcasing both elite grappling and a growing striking arsenal that’s made him a nightmare across divisions.

With a 27-1 record and a shot at welterweight gold next, Makhachev is one win away from cementing his legacy among the UFC’s all-time greats. But if he gets his wish, the biggest test may not come in the Octagon—it might happen under the White House lights, against Ilia Topuria, with the entire MMA world watching.
