Israel Adesanya caught flak from an unlikely source in the final days of his UFC title reign, as Jurassic World and MCU star Chris Pratt took aim at his fight style.
Adesanya established himself as one of the all-time greats through a lengthy undefeated run in the middleweight division, culminating in a dominant championship rule.
‘The Last Stylebender’ occupied the throne at 185 pounds between 2019 and 2023, during which he successfully defended the belt five times and moved close to Anderson Silva’s record tally for middleweight title fight wins.
But the UFC legend’s time as champion was far from criticism-free. In fact, his very last successful defense sparked debate over a supposed lackluster approach from Adesanya.
And a Hollywood star even got in on the act…
Among the celebrities in attendance at UFC 276, which took place just over three years to the day in 2022, was Chris Pratt.
The star of the Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises was disappointed by how the night ended, as Adesanya ground out a decision over Jared Cannonier that was widely branded overly defensive.
Pratt later made an appearance on ESPN’s UFC 276 Post Show alongside Din Thomas and Anthony Smith, and the renowned actor had some choice words for the main event winner.
“I’m gonna say this as humbly as I can, as a guy who never stepped in the Octagon. I don’t know this game, I’m just an actor. But I’m not a fan, man.
“I’m not a fan of coming out, like, all that talk and then just kind of putting on a little bit of a pitter-patter. I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Cash on that.’ You’ve got to cash on that promise of being so bada**.
“If I bet with my money, I would bet Adesanya would’ve done something like that. But I was hoping to see Cannonier (win). I’m not going to lie.”
It didn’t take long for Adesanya to hit back – and for Pratt to make a retraction.
After ‘The Last Stylebender’ responded with a defiant message on social media, Pratt replied with an apology for Adesanya.
“You’re right. I’m sorry brutha. It bugs me when people criticize my work- having never themselves risked anything. It makes me a hypocrite to do exactly that to you. My bad. Keep on keeping on champ.”

Adesanya went on to lose his title and undefeated middleweight record in his next fight, as Alex Pereira transitioned his past kickboxing success over the Nigerian-New Zealander into MMA.
Revenge came quickly for Adesanya, as he brutally knocked ‘Poatan’ out in a victory that was a far cry from the performances that left critics calling him ‘boring’.
