Seeing his title reign coming to an abrupt end at UFC 322, Jack Della Maddalena has been mocked by an emerging rival of his as a result.
Dropping a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Islam Makhachev, Australian star Jack Della Maddalena watched on as the Russian landed his second Octagon crown following exploits at lightweight.
However, unable to mount much offense against the dominant wrestling onslaught from Makhachev in a bout which included four separate takedowns, Della Maddalena dropped his title at the very first hurdle.
And in a comment sure to ruffle the Perth native’s feathers, his attempt at defending gold was ranked as one of the worst in promotional history.
Needling now-former champion Della Maddalena in the immediate aftermath of his loss to Makhachev, divisional contender Ian Garry had some words for the Aussie.
Recently involved in a surprising feud of sorts, Della Maddalena boldly questioned the legitimacy of Garry as a father to his young son.
But reacting to the Perth native’s defeat overnight, Garry branded Della Maddalena’s defense of his crown as one of the “weakest” he’s seen in a long time.

“Sending M&M’s and commiserations to you, JDM (Jack Della Maddalena),” Garry posted on X. “One of the weakest title defenses in UFC history. Your prep looked non-existent.”
Making good on his mooted welterweight move, Makhachev has also seen his performance come under scrutiny by a long-time nemesis off the back of his championship victory.
Successfully putting Della Maddalena on the canvas four times with takedowns and scoring in the region of 130 total strikes over five rounds, the likely new pound-for-pound number one has been blasted.
According to an arch-rival, the display to win gold at 170lbs was nothing short of “boring” viewing.
