UFC 327 turned wild when an injured Carlos Ulberg knocked out Jiri Prochazka in the first round. Later, many MMA stars said that Prochazka’s risky style cost him the fight. But the Czech fighter said he mentally lost focus during his title fight with Ulberg after seeing him injure his leg.
Prochazka explained that he had suffered a similar injury himself, so when he saw Ulberg hurt, he stopped fully focusing on finishing the fight. During his recent interview with MMA Fighting, the former light heavyweight champion said:
“But I can say for myself that I know from the moment that happened to him, I wasn’t at 100% anymore. I was at maybe 40, 50% of my performance and I was just sparring and waiting for the referee to stop the fight at any moment.”

The former light heavyweight champion admitted it was one of the biggest mistakes of his career, but said he wanted to learn from it and move forward. Additionally, Alex Pereira had already defeated Prochazka multiple times, and since then, many MMA stars have questioned his fighting style.
Demetrious Johnson believed Jiri Prochazka was unlikely to change his risky style even after being knocked out by Carlos Ulberg at UFC 327. Johnson pointed to Prochazka’s habit of keeping his hands low, saying it was a dangerous flaw because fighters couldn’t defend every shot that way. In a recent video, the MMA veteran said:
“This is a lesson that I always say, that athletes out there who keep their hands down when they fight – if your hands are down, you can’t block everything. I think Jiří Procházka is never going to break that habit of keeping his hands down while fighting.”

After the fight, Prochazka said he mentally lost focus when he saw Ulberg injure his leg and began showing too much respect, rather than staying locked in on the finish. Fans hoped the Czech fighter would bounce back from his loss.
