UFC light heavyweight contender Jiri Prochazka is not ruling out a potential vacant title fight against a soaring contender.
At the beginning of October, Jiri Prochazka scored his second win in a row when he came from behind to knockout Khalil Rountree Jr in a UFC 320 spectacle.
Following another incredible win inside the Octagon, ‘The Last Samurai’ made it clear that he wants another chance at revenge over Alex Pereira, after the Brazilian reclaimed the title.
Despite that, the future status of the light heavyweight title is currently unknown as ‘Poatan’ has made it clear that he is looking at moving up to the heavyweight division to take on Jon Jones in a super fight.
After Pereira scored his knockout over Magomed Ankalaev in the UFC 320 main event, Prochazka was seen crying tears of joy on the front row.
But that didn’t sit very well with soaring light heavyweight contender, Carlos Ulberg, who explained his problem with the Czech fighter.
And with Pereira talking about potentially moving up to heavyweight, a vacant 205lb title fight between Prochazka and Ulberg was pitched to Joe Rogan, who went on to approve the potential firefight.
Despite that, it seemed as though Prochazka was eager for a trilogy fight against ‘Poatan’, and may not agree to fighting another contender.
However, in an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, ‘The Last Samurai’ commented on a potential vacant title fight against ‘Black Jag’.
“I really don’t care what will be (Pereira’s) next move because I want to fight for the title and right now, I don’t care if it will be Alex Pereira, Ulberg or Ankalaev.
“I’m not obsessed with Alex Pereira, I really don’t care about some revenge… More importantly for me and for everyone who fights in the UFC is the title, to be the champion, to be the best, this is what I’m looking for.
“If (a fight against Ulberg would be for the title), let’s go for that. He’s a great fighter, he’s proved that many times, he’s very talented, really good kickboxing base and he’s fast, he’s fresh, yeah, he has good movement on his legs, very light. Let’s see what will be the next step,” Prochazka continued.
After Pereira made it clear that he is going to target a heavyweight super fight against Jones on the upcoming event at the White House, the former heavyweight champion was yet to respond to his callout.
However, following the heavyweight title fight at UFC 321 this past weekend, Jones finally responded to Pereira’s callout, potentially setting up the spectacle.
Despite that, at this point it is still unclear whether UFC boss Dana White will allow ‘Bones’ to compete on the card after having previously stated it’s a ‘billion to one chance’ that Jones competes on the event.
