UFC welterweight Joaquin Buckley has pushed back at recent criticism from Dana White, firing back at his boss after comments made about him.
‘New Mansa’ was last seen in the Octagon losing to former champion Kamaru Usman, marking his first UFC defeat since 2022. The fight was Buckley’s second straight main event appearance.
Although he hasn’t fought again since that bout, the 31-year-old has stayed busy by competing in wrestling events, aiming to round out his skill set before stepping back into the cage.
But as he eyes a return to action, Buckley now has an issue to deal with outside the cage involving some remarks from UFC president Dana White.
Even when he’s not fighting, Buckley manages to stay in the headlines thanks to his outspoken nature.
Recently, he’s been involved in an online feud with boxing stars Shakur Stevenson and Terence Crawford.
Buckley made some bold claims, stating that MMA is more entertaining than boxing and that he could hold his own against top talent from the sport.
Crawford responded, and Buckley offered him a sparring session. That offer eventually got back to White.
The UFC president has never shown much interest in MMA vs boxing debates. When asked about the back-and-forth between Crawford and Buckley, White struggled to recall who Buckley was before brushing off his chances in the ring.
“Damn, Dana. You done forgot who I was, huh?” Buckley replied in a video posted on social media.
“You forgot one of the guys you said ‘Hey man, this is the dude to watch out for in 2021,’ with Khamzat (Chimaev) and Kevin Holland?
“You forgot one of the guys that went on a crazy streak in 2024? You forgot that this is one of your most viral fighters?”
“Look Dana, this isn’t personal bro… But if you don’t think MMA fighters have a place in Zuffa Boxing, I believe you’re mistaken. Giving us the opportunity to go out there and put it on some of these boxers… Utilise us as a tool.”
Even though he played a major role in setting up Conor McGregor’s fight with Floyd Mayweather back in 2017, Dana White has never been one to embrace the ongoing boxing versus MMA debate.
Now that he’s overseeing Zuffa Boxing, it wouldn’t be surprising if those questions start coming his way more often.
