Joe Rogan believes training in jiu-jitsu and being a pretty cool person go hand-in-hand.
The UFC commentator took up the gentle art of jiu-jitsu soon after seeing MMA for the first time in 1996.
Almost 30 years later, Joe Rogan‘s dedicated commitment to the sport has seen him earn black belts in Gi and No-Gi BJJ.
During a recent episode of his uber-popular podcast, the 57-year-old shared his thoughts on jiu-jitsu and its ability to create great people.
Rogan believes the vast majority of people who persevere with jiu-jitsu will become a better version of themselves.
The UFC legend was ’99 percent’ sure he’d get along with anyone who has done over eight years of jiu-jitsu training.
“Jiu-jitsu is one of the most rewarding things in life,” Rogan said.
“It’s super hard to do. It’s really good for your head.
“Like, jiu-jitsu people in general, you get d—heads in every walk of life, but you get the nicest people, for the most part.
“You get people of character, because you have to have character to stick it out.
“If you’ve been doing jiu-jitsu for eight years, I’m 99 percent sure I can hang out with you.
“Like, you’re a dude who’s got his s— together.”
In recent years, Rogan has downsized his UFC role to the point where he only covers pay-per-view shows in the United States.
The fan favorite was expected to be in the broadcast booth for UFC 318, which took place in New Orleans last month.
Rogan skipped Dustin Poirier vs. Max Holloway 3 in favor of taking a yacht holiday with his family.
Still, he made a surprise cameo by sending a video message to Poirier ahead of his final MMA fight.
Rogan is expected to be back in the broadcast booth when UFC 319 goes down in Chicago on August 16.
Details about who will be commentating on the middleweight title fight between Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev won’t be made public until fight week.
So, fans will just have to wait and see if Rogan returns after opting against attending the last big UFC show.
