The legendary Cris Cyborg has joined the PFL founder in dismissing Joe Rogan’s take.
Having featured at the UFC commentary desk for over two decades and been involved in the promotion since first appearing in 1997, Rogan has had a close view of the all-time greats in mixed martial arts.
The podcaster and stand-up comedian is unsurprisingly firm on his view of the UFC as MMA’s leading promotion, and he recently went a step further by suggesting that athletes competing outside of the organization cannot consider themselves the best in their respective divisions.
“That title (UFC) is worth so much. It’s the name. It’s the combat sports leader,” he said on an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience.
“If you’re not in the UFC, I don’t care. You can go to the PFL, you can win that million-dollar tournament, and you can make money.
“I’m all for that and I’m very happy for those guys, get to feed their families and provide and make a great living and they can retire with some money in the bank,” he continued.
“But the reality is, part of what you’re doing is you’re trying to be the best, and if you’re going to be the best, you kind of have to be in the UFC.”
It did not take long for PFL founder and chairman Donn Davis to catch wind of Rogan’s remarks.
He soon hit back on social media by reminding the longtime UFC color commentator of some of his promotion’s best fighters, including Francis Ngannou, Dakota Ditcheva, Cris Cyborg, and Usman Nurmagomedov.
While both Ngannou and Cyborg have already held UFC gold, Ditcheva and Nurmagomedov have been widely tipped for such success should they venture to the Octagon down the line.
“Is this really true Joe?!” Davis asked, before listing off the PFL’s top names and referencing the great Fedor Emelianenko’s career outside of the UFC.

Seems to me @joerogan that many TOP MMA fighters are in @PFLMMA ♂️ https://t.co/COybBzJ40H
Cyborg herself also chimed in, once again accusing Kayla Harrison of running from their fight in the PFL when she signed with the UFC in early 2024.
“I would argue @KaylaH left the PFL because after losing to Pacheco she realized she couldn’t beat me…that’s why she took less money to fight lesser opponents,” Cyborg wrote on X.
“She negotiated everything she wanted for our fight…then when it became time to fight took her ball and went home,” she added.
While the PFL has plenty of names who many believe can compete with the UFC’s best, they may be about to lose arguably the biggest.
Ngannou recently dropped a contractual bombshell by revealing that his PFL deal will end after his second fight in the promotion this year.
‘The Predator’ could end up being a free agent if a new deal is not agreed with the PFL, which has further sparked talk of a UFC return.
But Dana White has rejected talk of re-signing Ngannou, even if the chance to secure the former heavyweight champion for the UFC event at the White House arises.
