Two staples of the UFC’s light heavyweight division will collide for the first time.
Joe Rogan has urged Dana White to book Jon Jones’s return for the White House event that will take place on June 14.
The consensus greatest of all time’s decision to officially retire in June was quickly reversed by the announcement of this historic one-off night.
While the opponent he wants to face, Alex Pereira, has suggested he won’t be in action on this date, it would make a lot of sense for ‘Bones’ to continue targeting this goal.
In the meantime, two fighters that were in hot pursuit of his light heavyweight title will battle it out when the Octagon returns to the Kaseya Center in Miami.
Last April, Alexander Volkanovski defeated Diego Lopes in the main event of UFC 314 to win back the UFC featherweight title.
A memorable night at the Kaseya Center in Miami also saw Paddy Pimblett pick up the biggest win of his career to date.
It has now been stated that the Octagon will return to the same building for UFC 327 on April 11 following the reveal of a first matchup.
MMA Mania’s Alex Behunin reported on Tuesday that multiple sources have confirmed that top 15 light heavyweights Dominick Reyes and Johnny Walker will meet on this date.
Reyes, who was beaten by Carlos Ulberg last time out, went the distance with challenging Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title at UFC 247 in a fight that many believed he deserved to win.
Walker, on the other hand, didn’t get the opportunity to face ‘Bones’, though many expected him to be the next challenger before Corey Anderson handed him his first UFC loss at Madison Square Garden.
Both Dominick Reyes and Johnny Walker have had very up-and-down UFC careers at the top of the light heavyweight division.
After losing four in a row, Reyes was able to put together three wins and finishes before having his remarkable redemption story halted by Carlos Ulberg in September.
Walker defeated Zhang Mingyang last time out to bounce back from being without a win in his last three outings.
The Brazilian’s bold takedown strategy from the opening bell immediately backfired, though he went on to win the fight in the second round following some devastating leg kicks.
