Jon Jones: "I don’t know if I want to call it retired"

After months of uncertainty surrounding his future, Jon Jones has hinted at what’s next for him.

Since the consensus greatest of all time became champion, the heavyweight division has been the most unclear weight class in the sport. Having made just one title defense in over two years, fans are growing tired of waiting for 'Bones' to return to the octagon, but there is no confirmation of if or when that will ever happen.

For over a year, fans have been urging Jon Jones to defend his heavyweight title against rightful number one contender Tom Aspinall. While the 'ducking' claims are likely not true, Jones has taken an unusual stance on the potential fight against the interim titleholder.

Now, Jones has shed further doubt on the clash with a response to a question on social media.

"I don’t know if I wanna call it retired," Jones said in response to a query on his retirement status. "I feel like I’ll always have an ability to pop out and show 'em."

"I’ve had many breaks throughout my career, my identity outside of fighting is well intact."

Jones continued, insisting that he is having fun during his time away from competing in the cage without giving a definitive answer on his immediate future.

"I’m genuinely enjoying life, I’m growing in different ways."

While waiting for Jon Jones, Tom Aspinall was forced to defend his interim heavyweight gold.

Despite walking through Curtis Blaydes last time out, Aspinall is still sitting in limbo and has been sidelined for over 330 days waiting for his shot at undisputed glory.

Inactivity hasn’t seemed to have bothered Jones, and the possibility of being stripped of champion status doesn’t faze him.

"Stripped? Lol, do I come across as the type of person who cares about things like that?"
