Jon Jones’ champion training partner, Gordon Ryan, has claimed that all top MMA athletes are bending the rules of the sport.

Throughout his dazzling career in the UFC, Jon Jones‘ issues with performance enhancing drugs are well documented and many fans believe that is the reason why he can’t go down as the greatest of all time.

And throughout the history of MMA, it was once an ongoing issue in the sport with most fighters believed to have indulged in some level of PEDs during one era in the sport.

Although the sport has seemingly evolved over the past decade and the use of steroids has decreased massively, Jones’ jiu-jitsu champion training partner Gordon Ryan believes it is still a rife issue in combat sports.

Gordon Ryan claims top MMA athletes are all on steroids

Ryan is widely recognized as the greatest jiu-jitsu practitioner of all time, however, he has openly talked about his use of steroids for several years.

During Jones’ later years in the UFC, he drafted Ryan in to help him refine his jiu-jitsu ahead of title fights against Ciryl Gane and Stipe Miocic.

After being around the MMA world for a considerable amount of time now, Ryan recently made a bold claim that top MMA athletes are all on steroids, despite the drug testing involved in the UFC and other promotions.

“When you have testing, especially in a sport like MMA for example where the lowest level guys aren’t really paid that much money, so you have a guy that’s just made it to the UFC and he’s making $12,000 to show and $12,000 to win,” Ryan began to explain in a video.

“$24,000 you have to go through a whole camp, you’ve got to pay for all the expenses, you have to bring in all these training partners, you’ve gotta pay for your coaches, fly the coaches out, there’s a lot of expenses that go into this…

“Those guys, if there’s steroid testing, those guys won’t have the resources or the money to hire the doctors necessary to beat the test, so those guys are natural.

“Guys at the top who are making millions of dollars, those guys who are part of the big teams will always have the resources and money available to them to hire the doctors to help them beat the tests.”

Ryan advocates for promotions to allow steroid use

After making such a bold claim, Ryan has advocated for promotions to allow athletes to use steroids, stating that it would be done in a safer way than it is now.

Despite ‘The King’s’ advice, it is unlikely that promotions will go back on years of hard work to make the sport widely recognized as a safe sport and if anything, testing would likely become more rigorous before steroid usage is openly allowed.
