Hoping to secure a summer return to action against Alex Pereira, Jon Jones has been gifted a rather straightforward game plan to topple the Brazilian.

Confirming plans to potentially fight one more time in the UFC, former two-weight champion Jon Jones has been vocal about his willingness to share the Octagon with Alex Pereira.

And hopeful of securing a spot on the summer UFC White House card in the capital, Jones has stressed his desire to fight the “respectful” Brazilian after a recent callout.

Viewed as a credible threat to Pereira’s so-far roughshod run in the promotion, Jones has a particular tool he can use to his advantage once more, according to a former UFC champion.

Jon Jones urged to implement ‘Ciryl Gane plan’ to defeat Alex Pereira

Making good on his long-mooted heavyweight move two years ago with a dominant vacant title win, Jones toppled French contender Ciryl Gane with relative ease.

Stopping the former interim champion with a quickfire guillotine choke, Jones put Gane on the canvas with an early takedown.

And as far as former middleweight titleholder Michael Bisping is concerned, wrestling is Jones’ best route to success against the hulking knockout star Pereira.

“Let’s be honest Jon Jones beat Ciryl Gane by taking him down and he’ll probably take down Alex Pereira, so it’s kind of one of those matchups that would favor Jon Jones,” Bisping said on his YouTube channel.

“Now, Jones, of course, he’s had a legendary career,” Bisping explained. “And he is very well-rounded. …Jones went out there and beat Ciryl Gane, he did. He beat him easily.”

Jon Jones feared another knockout king

Facing a tall order in avoiding the massive power of Sao Paulo star Pereira if he enters the Octagon against the light heavyweight champion, Jones openly laments a failed matchup from his past.

During his initial run at 205lbs, the Rochester native had run through each and every title challenger to his throne, apart from one.

Shelving a scheduled return at UFC 187, Jones admitted he was “glad” to miss out on a clash with a late top contender who had scored some of the sport’s most devastating knockout wins.
