Jon Jones Sees Initial Hit-and-Run Charge Dropped, Still Faces Two Others

The initial charge filed against former UFC two-division champion Jon Jones for an alleged February hit-and-run has been dismissed.

According to New Mexico court records, prosecutors dropped the misdemeanor leaving-the-scene-of-an-accident charge Wednesday, citing nolle prosequi. TMZ Sports first reported the news. No reason for the dismissal was provided.

Jones, however, still faces two charges in a separate case filed days later: another leaving-the-scene charge and one count of using a telephone to terrify, intimidate, threaten, harass, annoy, or offend. A bench trial is set for Sept. 2 in Albuquerque Metropolitan Court.

The charges stem from a Feb. 21 incident in which police say they found a half-dressed, apparently intoxicated woman in the passenger seat of a car stopped in an intersection after a collision. The woman alleged Jones was driving and fled the scene. She later called a man she claimed was Jones, and the voice on the other end threatened officers, saying he had friends who could kill them.

Police later released body camera footage from the incident. Jones appeared to implicate himself as the caller, though his attorney, Christopher Dodd, denied Jones was driving and said the woman’s accusation was false and fueled by intoxication.
