Jorge Masvidal believes undefeated Russian contender Movsar Evloev is a guaranteed future champion in the featherweight division after training with him.
Jorge Masvidal was once one of the biggest stars in the UFC after several brutal knockout wins in a row, including his viral record-breaking knockout of Ben Askren.
Following his insane run, ‘Gamebred’ was afforded a welterweight title shot against Kamaru Usman which kicked off the start of their epic rivalry.
Having almost made it to the top of the sport, Masvidal has an eye for spotting the next generation of talent, and he has highlighted undefeated featherweight contender Movsar Evloev as a guaranteed future champion.
The UFC featherweight division is in somewhat of a strange position at the moment. Earlier this year at UFC 314, Alexander Volkanovski reclaimed the 145lb title with a win over Diego Lopes.
Recently, rumors began to circulate that Volkanovski’s next title fight would bizarrely come against former foe Yair Rodriguez, despite having already beaten him in 2023.
Evloev is currently on a nine-fight win streak in the UFC since his signing in 2019 and has seemingly been a deserving contender for a while.
Despite that, he is clearly not favored by UFC boss Dana White, who labeled his fight against Arnold Allen one of the most boring fights ever, which ruffled Evloev’s feathers.
Although the undefeated Russian continues to get snubbed, Masvidal believes Evloev will soon win the UFC title.
“I’ve known Movsar for four years at American Top Team me and Movsar trained a lot together,” Masvidal told Red Corner MMA.
“At the time, I’m like 185-190lbs and Movsar is like 150-160lbs, so at first, we’re wrestling, I’m doing okay but this guy does not stop.
“By the last minute, my head was gonna explode because he just doesn’t stop and he’s just shooting, wrestling, does not stop… When I went with him and I was like, ‘Man, he’s able to keep that pace with me and I’m a lot bigger than him and more experienced than him, this guy’s scary.’
“I’m telling you, this guy is gonna be the champion at 145lbs. God gave him genetics but also this guy works harder than everybody else,” Masvidal continued.

With Volkanovski potentially set to take on Rodriguez next, Evloev recently accepted a fight against UFC newcomer Aaron Pico, sources close to the situation confirmed with Bloody Elbow.
The Russian contender accepted an offer to take on Pico in a five-round co-main event fight on the UFC Abu Dhabi card, scheduled for July 26.
