Josh Hokit’s outrageous fight week ended with a bang as he stole Joe Rogan’s microphone before an intense final face-off.
The fast-rising heavyweight has fought just twice in the octagon, and gets a shot at a top five ranking tomorrow night when he takes on Curtis Blaydes. He has taken over fight week with his antics throughout, playing characters like ‘The Incredible Hok’ and ‘The Down Vato’.
Fans are divided on Hokit’s behaviour, with the general social media consensus being that his act is cringe-worthy. However, he has undeniably garnered attention and made a fight with the otherwise quiet Blaydes arguably the most interesting on the card.
Despite getting an undeniable seal of disapproval from Dana White, nothing has stopped Josh Hokit from making headlines this week. Tonight was his final chance to get in front of the fans and media at ceremonial weigh-ins, and he made it count.
First, he danced for the ring girls after coming on stage, before taking the microphone from Joe Rogan in a move that is essentially unprecedented over hundreds of events. “Don’t twist my noodle, toy poodle,” he shouted. “I’m going to toast him like a toaster strudel.”
He finished the exchange by asking what has become something of a catchphrase this week: “Am I right Miami?” Hokit was loudly booed walking to the scales, where he came in at 233lb – a whopping 28lb less than Blaydes.
Their face-off was brief and arguably the least noteworthy part of the entire event as the wrestling standout refused to be drawn – yet again – into Hokit’s antics. The controversial ex-NFL star then headed backstage for an interview with Megan Olivi where he performed his ‘shy Josh’ persona.
