Josh Hokit is going to need a new lead corner for the biggest fight of his career in the absence of Greg Jackson.
The divisive former NFL star landed himself a top five heavyweight ranking and a spot on the UFC White House card with his fight of the year contender against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 327. But he will have to take on the biggest bout of his life without one of the greatest coaches in MMA history in his corner.
Hokit has been very active on social media after his victory over Blaydes. And tonight the controversial undefeated star revealed that his hastily-arranged showdown with Derrick Lewis will be done with a new coach.
Since making the switch from football to MMA, Josh Hokit has been training under the legendary coach Greg Jackson at Albuquerque’s Jackson Wink. The famed gym was home to Jon Jones for years, as well as world champions like Holly Holm.
Clearly, Hokit has learned well – landing himself as one of the top five heavyweights in the world within just nine professional fights. However, he has claimed today that his tenth bout will have to take place without Jackson in his corner.
Taking to X tonight, Hokit wrote: “My coach Greg Jackson will not be coaching me on the White House fight for personal reasons… I don’t have a coach now… Will the ring girls corner me please? Tag them for me.”
Jackson has not yet commented on what exactly his ‘personal reasons’ are, and there is little to indicate that politics are behind the decision. The fight itself was put together on the night of UFC 327 after requests from President Donald Trump and Joe Rogan to Dana White at cageside.
