Kamaru Usman reveals plans to replicate Conor McGregor feat before UFC retirement

Kamaru Usman has laid out some rather lofty goals he hopes to accomplish before his UFC career is in the books.

Making a triumphant return to action in a headliner earlier this year, Kamaru Usman snapped a three-fight losing skid in a main event turnaround.

Stopping the run of the well-placed contender, Joaquin Buckley, former divisional champion Usman positioned himself for a potential title eliminator in the future.

However, with plans to potentially face off with stablemate Islam Makhachev in the future, the Auchi star has plans to fulfill another historic goal before too long.

Kamaru Usman vows to become two-weight UFC champion

Since the 2016 rise of megastar Conor McGregor as the promotion’s first two-weight champion held simultaneously, a host of Octagon stars have gone on to replicate the Dubliner’s immense success.

From the likes of Ilia Topuria to recent UFC 320 victor Alex Pereira, many have gone to achieve similar success.

And now, former pound-for-pound number one Usman has revealed plans to make a middleweight move in search of a second title, and a rematch with an unbeaten force.

“At this part of my career, the dream scenario is: next fight, win the welterweight title, vacate, win the middleweight title, retire,” Usman said.

“Just, ‘Boom, boom — one, two.’ And then you’re done. You can’t top that. It’s like, what else do I want out of this?”

Kamaru Usman’s close fight with Khamzat Chimaev

Arguably pushing the current middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev to his limit so far in his roughshod Octagon run, Usman almost pumped the brakes on the Chechen’s meteoric rise.

Fighting the undefeated star in an impromptu middleweight move two years ago, Usman fought Chimaev on short notice after an injury ruled former title challenger Paulo Costa out of the pairing.

And finding himself on the wrong side of a close majority decision loss, Usman has been credited as the biggest threat to Chimaev’s spectacular winning spree in the promotion.
