Getting banned for doping isn’t uncommon; many stars have been suspended for it. While Conor McGregor was banned not for testing positive but for missing tests, Kamaru Usman’s brother was found to have tested positive for doping. Subsequently, Mohammed Usman received a two-year and six-month suspension for violating the UFC Anti-Doping Policy.
He tested positive for testosterone from an out-of-competition sample collected September 8, 2025, in Coral Springs, Florida. The suspension began on October 9, 2025 – the day he was notified of the positive test, pulled from the Rio de Janeiro card, and provisionally suspended. It runs until April 9, 2028, effectively wiping out nearly three years of his career.

The suspension will end on April 9, 2028,” the UFC announced.

Prior to MMA, Usman played college football as a defensive end at the University of Arizona. Like his brother Kamaru, he showed excellent athletic talent transitioning from football to fighting.
While ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is a UFC legend, his brother Mohammed made his pro debut in 2017 and built a 12-4 record, including winning The Ultimate Fighter 30 heavyweight tournament, one of his biggest accomplishments. His UFC octagon record sits at approximately 4-2, showing he was competitive at the highest level before the suspension. Mohammad’s last fight was in June, which he won via UD against Hamdy Abdelwahab.
His TUF 30 win now carries an asterisk in fans’ minds, even if that tournament predated the positive test. Once the fighter fails for PEDs, every past achievement gets questioned retroactively, which has happened with even Jon Jones.
Now, all that momentum disappears while he sits on the sidelines until 2028. By April 2028, Mohammed will be years removed from competition. The layoff makes returning extremely difficult, even if he serves the full suspension without issues. Most fighters struggle to come back after that long a layoff.
