There’s no question that Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the most dominant mixed martial artists of all time. However, despite his remarkable run in the UFC, many believe his career didn’t last long enough for him to be considered the undisputed “GOAT.”

That said, on Monday, Khabib made it very clear who he believes holds that title. In a post on Instagram, he named recently retired legend Jon Jones as the greatest fighter in UFC history — despite the two not being close friends.

“My congratulations, legend," Nurmagomedov wrote. "Even though we were not friends, you are the best to ever do it in UFC history, and you inspire millions of people around the world. You have nothing more to prove in this sport."

Khabib retired in 2021 with a perfect 29–0 professional record, though only 13 of those fights came under the UFC banner.

Jon Jones, on the other hand, holds a 28–1–1 UFC record and owns one of the most decorated resumes in mixed martial arts history. He became the youngest champion in UFC history, captured both the light heavyweight and heavyweight titles, and holds the record for most title defenses.

In Jones' retirement post, Jones reflected on his legacy, writing:

“From the first time I stepped into the Octagon, my goal was to push the boundaries of what was possible in this sport. Becoming the youngest UFC champion in history, defending my title against some of the best fighters in the world, and sharing unforgettable moments with fans across the globe—these are memories I’ll cherish forever. I’ve faced incredible highs and some tough lows, but every challenge has taught me something valuable and made me stronger, both as a fighter and as a person.”
