In his title fight with Dricus du Plessis, Khamzat Chimaev didn’t just win—he dismantled the champion in a way that left jaws on the floor. The performance was so commanding, so one-sided, that it not only crowned him king of the 185-pound division but also etched his name into the record books.
From the opening bell, Chimaev made it clear who was in control. He shot for a takedown within the first 30 seconds and got it with ease—and from there, the wrestling clinic only got worse for du Plessis. Chimaev kept dragging him down at will, piling up control time like it was nothing. The crazy part?

Reports later confirmed he logged 21 minutes and 40 seconds of ground control, the most ever in a UFC title fight, not just at middleweight but across all divisions. That’s a wild stat by itself. But here’s the kicker: with the win, Chimaev also became just the third fighter in history to capture the middleweight belt while still undefeated, joining Israel Adesanya (18-0) and Chris Weidman (10-0). Now at 15-0, “Borz” has officially carved his name into elite company.
From the very start, Khamzat Chimaev wasted no time imposing his game. He shot for an early takedown on Dricus du Plessis, moved straight into side control and even locked in a crucifix, peppering him with short punches while keeping complete control. Du Plessis managed to scramble late in the round, but Chimaev stayed on top, landing elbows until the horn.
The second round was more of the same. Chimaev dragged Du Plessis down by the fence and controlled him from turtle, grinding away with knees to the legs. The crowd grew restless as Chimaev smothered him, but Du Plessis couldn’t find a way out.
In round three, Chimaev advanced positions with ease, cutting Du Plessis with elbows, even taking mount and then his back to close the frame. By the later rounds, the story hadn’t changed takedown after takedown, suffocating control, and Du Plessis looking helpless. When it was all over, Chimaev had dominated start to finish to claim the title.
