UFC 318 has hit a bump after one of its fighters broke a toe in training.
Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway are set to headline the pay-per-view in New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 19 – and fight fans can breathe a sigh of relief that the main event is still intact.
However, a middleweight prospect from the preliminary card has had to pull out of the event.
On Tuesday morning, Ikram Aliskerov posted footage to social media showing one of his recent sparring sessions ending in a painful injury.
The Russian, whose only losses in MMA have come against Khamzat Chimaev and Robert Whittaker, was scheduled to take on Brunno Ferreira.
That fight has now been cancelled, with Aliskerov breaking his big toe during a session.
“I was in great shape, unfortunately, trouble happens,” he wrote alongside the Instagram video.
“I have to withdraw from the fight on July 19 due to a broken [toe].
“Insha Allah I will be back very soon. I’ll be back very soon, Insha’Allah.”
There’s no word yet on whether Ferreira will remain on the card against a new opponent or if he’ll be rescheduled entirely.
