Kevin Ferguson Jr., the son of street fighter Kimbo Slice, is set to make his bare-knuckle debut against Derek Perez at BKFC 80 on September 12 on the Arnold Adams vs. Leonardo Perdomo card.

Ferguson Jr. has competed in six mixed martial arts bouts and one professional boxing match. He last fought in April 2023 under the Misfits Boxing banner, where he was defeated by OJ Rose. However, the BKFC debut has been a long time coming. A previously planned fight against influencer fighter Bryce Hall at BKFC KnuckleMania 5 was postponed because Ferguson Jr. had reportedly started a career as a police officer and couldn’t undertake a training camp. Despite the delay, Ferguson Jr. now gets his shot.

The Match-Up

Ferguson Jr.’s most direct path to victory is to use his power. His strategy will likely be to use his striking to keep Perez at a distance, looking for an opening to land his shots. He will need to be aggressive from the start, as bare-knuckle fights often end quickly. His MMA background also gives him an advantage in the clinch, where he can use dirty boxing to inflict damage. However, the biggest question for Ferguson Jr. will be his “ring rust.” He has not fought since April 2023.

Derek Perez’s path to victory is based on his experience and durability. With eight fights under the BKFC banner, he has a deep understanding of the sport’s unique demands. His strategy will likely be to weather Ferguson Jr.’s early storm and then look to break him down with volume and well-placed shots. He has shown a good chin in the past, and he will need it against the heavy-handed Ferguson Jr.
