Reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight MMA World Champion Denice Zamboanga has withdrawn from her scheduled title defense against Japanese challenger Ayaka Miura due to medical reasons, the Filipina champion announced via social media. The highly anticipated bout was set for ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena on November 16, but it will no longer take place as planned.

The 28-year-old Denice Zamboanga took to social media to deliver the disappointing news, expressing her genuine regret at being unable to compete against Miura in what promised to be a compelling title bout.

“With a heavy heart, I need to share some difficult news. I was truly excited to defend my belt at ONE 173 against Ayaka. I know how strong and talented she is, and I was looking forward to testing myself against such a worthy challenger. This was a fight I have been preparing for and one I deeply wanted to give to the fans,” Denice Zamboanga stated in her announcement.

The champion’s emotional message revealed the depth of her disappointment at missing this opportunity to showcase her skills on Japanese soil against a formidable opponent.

With Zamboanga’s withdrawal, ONE 173 will now be headlined by three title fights. The main event features Superbon defending his ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Title against Masaaki Noiri in a unification bout. The card also includes “Reug Reug” Oumar Kane putting the ONE Heavyweight MMA World Championship on the line against Anatoly Malykhin in a rematch, and Yuya Wakamatsu facing Joshua Pacio for the ONE Flyweight MMA World Championship.
