For the first time since his third straight loss in April, Michael Chandler has an opponent, but not for an MMA fight.
Paddy Pimblett defeated the three-time Bellator lightweight champion by TKO in the third round at UFC 314.
Since then, Chandler has set his sights on a potential fight with Conor McGregor.
That bout is expected to be scheduled for the UFC White House card in June 2026, and to get ready for it, ‘Iron’ has switched sports to face one of McGregor’s former KO victims.
Chandler will take on Chad Mendes at RAF03, with the news having been confirmed on Monday.
The third event of Real American Freestyle (RAF), which bills itself as the first unscripted pro-wrestling league, is scheduled to take place at Wintrust Arena in Chicago on 29 November.
Fans can watch the event exclusively on Fox Nation, and tickets are already available through Ticketmaster.
A press release stated: “UFC legends Chad Mendes and Michael Chandler have joined the roster and will face off against one another on the RAF03 fight card at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL, on November 29.”
“The two champion mixed martial artists are the latest UFC stars to sign with the league, demonstrating the power of Real American Freestyle and the optionality presented to professional fighters whose first love is wrestling.”
“In partnership with USA Wrestling, UFC, NIL and MMA organizations, and the NCAA, athletes can compete regardless of their NCAA or contractual status, providing crucial opportunities for wrestlers at the start and in the prime of their careers.
“Real American Freestyle for the first time presents a supplementary option and professional stage for one of the world’s oldest, most beloved sports. Seeking to provide an opportunity for the best athletes to compete and showcase their talent, Real American Freestyle offers a dynamic, modern approach to coverage of wrestling.”
Speaking to Bloody Elbow recently, Chandler shared where things stand with his career and the talk surrounding a fight with McGregor, who has been vocal about wanting the match-up.
“We have some history. I’m the opponent that he wants. He’s the opponent that I want. And it would be one heck of an event if it happened.
“I’ve got plenty left in the tank and obviously there are some big fights coming up next year that I’d love to participate in,” the 39-year-old stated.
