No fighter wants to keep losing for a long time. From Tony Ferguson to B.J. Penn, many stars enjoyed big wins before going through hard times. Meanwhile, Michael Chandler is going through that same struggle. ‘The Iron Mike’ has been through the fire before. Four straight losses is a stretch that would break most fighters’ spirits entirely. But his response suggests he isn’t broken yet.
At the UFC Freedom 250 event, Maurício Ruffy stopped Chandler in the first round via TKO. A spinning wheel kick and punches ended the night brutally quickly for the American fighter. Now, Chandler stepped forward and addressed the losing run the only way he knows how. Chandler didn’t make excuses. Instead, he pointed at circumstances outside his control.
“I said, we’re happy, we’re healthy, we’re hard to kill. You have these moments in life where everyone’s watching how you’re gonna respond. And I promise you, just as I always have, I will continue to respond like a champion. And it stinks because I know I prepared. I promise you I prepared to the best of my ability. Left no stone unturned in the preparation. I can rest easy knowing that,” Chandler said.
Four losses in a row against elite lightweight competition is a brutal stretch for anyone. The division Chandler has been competing in doesn’t give ground. Every name on his recent record is a legitimate problem at 155 pounds. The losses have been coming against the best, and the results have been consistent.
After his recent loss, the UFC removed Chandler from the lightweight rankings. That made it a sad moment for the American fighter. For the first time in his career, Chandler no longer holds a spot in the rankings. It shows how quickly things can change in this sport.

Nobody knows what comes next for Chandler. The UFC could give him another chance. Or this fight week could be the final chapter of his career. Right now, nobody has talked about that in public. What he said in the aftermath suggests he isn’t ready to have it
