That streak came to an abrupt stop when he challenged Douglas Lima and was knocked out in the first round in the semifinals of the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix semifinals in 2019. He came up short in a split decision loss when he challenged Logan Storley for the interim welterweight title in 2022.
