Beloved MMA veteran Cub Swanson finally hung up his gloves tonight in Miami after knocking out Nate Landwehr in a sensational final fight.

The long-time featherweight contender has been fighting professionally for 22 years, and came into UFC 327 on the back of a stunning knockout win over Billy Quarantillo. And at the age of 42, he decided that it was time to retire for good.

Swanson was given a dream opportunity for his retirement, getting to compete on the main card of the promotion’s annual Miami event. And he even had President Donald Trump at cageside to watch his 45th professional bout.

After an emotional night in Florida last time out against Billy Quarantillo, the beloved Cub Swanson decided to have one last go in the octagon. His dance partner was decided to be renowned madman Nate Landwehr, who entered the cage unfazed by the gravity of the night’s ultimate meaning.

As the final fighter from the famed WEC era, Swanson has been popular with fans for decades. And he looked considerably younger than his years in the opening round as he rocked ‘Nate the Train’ halfway through the round.

And with two minutes until the break he floored Landwehr twice with a set of left hands, completely rolling back the years. And a massive right hand right at the death saw Herb Dean step in as he scored a phenomenal knockout to end his career.

“You know I’m going to get all emotional,” Swanson told a visibly shaken Joe Rogan in his post-fight interview.” I’ve been doing this a long time, I’m terrified every time I come out here and I just try to be brave, and I’m glad I was able to do that tonight.”

And as his family were welcomed into the octagon, Swanson was shown a tribute video put together by the UFC. Swanson was visibly emotional at being celebrated by the promotion after years of service.
