On Saturday night, UFC Fight Night was a quick welterweight bout between No. 8 ranked Gilbert Burns and No. 12 ranked Michael Morales. The bout was the headliner of the event.
Burns came into this fight hoping to snap a three-fight losing streak, while Morales looked to keep up his unbeaten streak and move up to the Top 10 rankings.
Burns made the first strike with an outside leg kick. Morales fired back and followed it with a swift right hand.
Morales then powered back with a clean right hand. Burns responded with a right hand. Morales established his quick jab as the first round came to a close. He pushed forward and landed a combination. Burns quickly changed tempo and looked to take Morales to the ground.
Morales defended the takedown attempt. He unleashed a barrage of punches on an injured Burns. Burns fell to the canvas and Morales continued to pour on the punches. Burns was slow to get to his feet but was met with more punches. He went down for a second time. Morales continued to take shots at burns forcing referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.
The official time of the stoppage was 3:39 of the first round.
