Nate Diaz has not fought inside the Octagon for nearly three years now.
After talking with Diaz, Chael Sonnen recently stated that he was confident about a UFC return for ‘The Stockton Slugger’.
Since leaving the promotion, Diaz has taken part in two boxing matches. However, 2025 could end up being his first inactive year since 2020.
While he’s been keeping busy with other ventures, there’s still a strong demand from fans to see him back in action.
The 40-year-old recently gave an update on what his next move might be.
Nate Diaz made an appearance at Dirty Boxing’s third event on Friday night, taking a few moments to speak with the media in Miami.
He made it clear that he would like to be more active than he has been in recent years, if the decision was entirely up to him.
However, in a conversation with MMA Junkie’s Danny Segura, Diaz stated that a suitable opponent is currently unavailable.
“Nobody’s free so there ain’t nobody to fight. I want to fight three times a year but everyone’s f—— locked down so it’s a matter of time. I’m trying to fight ASAP and that’s what’s happening.”
This is not new territory for Diaz, who has often said that nothing in MMA has really grabbed his attention or pushed him back into training camp.
He stood by that view, but mentioned boxing and jiu-jitsu as possible alternatives if a UFC return doesn’t materialise.
“At the moment, I don’t have anything to see until it pops up in my grill… Both, jiu-jitsu also. I’m gonna do all the combat sports as much as possible until the end of time.”
Speculation around a potential UFC return for Diaz picked up again after the organisation revealed plans to hold an event at the White House in 2026.
While Dana White has not named any fighters yet, given how far off the event is, someone with Diaz’s profile would be a logical choice.
Speaking to MMA Junkie on Friday night, the California native said he is interested in being part of that card when it happens.
“100%. That’s the thing I’m most looking forward to.”
