'Never call me about fight!' Khabib Nurmagomedov REVEALS Dana White’s company called him for potential UFC 300 fight

With UFC’s tricentennial fight card edging in closer and closer, fight fans have been grueling over possibilities. For a long while, all MMA enthusiasts and pundits could ponder was who should headline UFC 300. And in their desperation, even the matchmakers reverted to retired Dagestani phenom Khabib Nurmagomedov . In light of 185lber Israel Adesanya hinting at a summoning and Jamhal Hill doing the same, here comes another. This time ‘The Eagle’ follows suit.

At 29-0 MMA and 13-0 UFC, ‘The Eagle’ is the longest reigning undefeated 155lber in promotion history. The former lightweight earns accolades based on his illustrious career run even to this day. Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from MMA after UFC 254. The death of his father and coach acted as a determining stimulant to the cause. Doubling down on his retirement, here’s what he told MMA Junkie‘s Mike Bohn at Class A Events in Canada:

[On a future appearance] I know they connected with Ali, but I told Ali last, maybe one year (ago), I said, ‘It doesn’t matter who calls you, but never call me about a fight...We have a deal - Directly with me, nobody connects. But I know with Ali, he connected with some people from UFC. But I told already once, and I told a lot of times for all these people that try to bring me back...I decided this in October 2020. It was my last fight, and I will never change this. Khabib Nurmagomedov to MMA Junkie‘s Mike Bohn in Vancouver

Before settling for Alex Pereira‘s maiden defense against returning 205lber Hill, the UFC had been scrambling hard for a main event. Jamahal Hill himself prompted that the call came just a day before announcing UFC 300. In a recent convo with The MMA Hour‘s Ariel Helwani (for MMAFighting on SBN), Pereira too confirmed his title fight was bumped down from UFC 301 at the last minute.

And in atypical fashion, Khabib Nurmagomedov happened to be the dreamscape scenario for the match-casting. Many MMA personalities chide upon this reversal to call upon retired veterans in times of crisis. The one that prompted this is a viral audio clip from AKA coach Javier Mendez mentioning his “return”. This has consequently been debunked on all counts.

Khabib Nurmagomedov slams non-sensical card ahead of UFC 300 matchups

After a round 2 submission of Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, Combat Sambo veteran and undefeated 155lber Khabib Nurmagomedov hung up his gloves; literally. He retired, never to return to the scope of fighting. Purchasing the ‘Gorilla Fighting Championship’, he renamed it ‘Eagle Fighting Championship.’ He now corners his close friend, Islam Makachev and acts in a coaching capacity.

On his official YouTube channel, wrestling acquaintance and friend Daniel Cormier had divulged Khabib snubbing a $40,000,000 offer from Dana White and Co. to return. He recently shut down rumors of returning to the historic UFC 300 card yet again. UFC 300 will see a light heavyweight title fight between champion Alex Pereira, who makes a maiden defense against former champ, Jamahal Hill.

Concurrently though, he isn’t fond of the current lineup either. Speaking to MMA Junkie, Khabib said:

I don’t understand why UFC make this fight. Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway: It makes no sense…Holloway is supposed to fight with Ilia Topuria next… Justin Gaethje is supposed to fight with Islam in May or June, and Tsarukyan vs. Oliveira, they fight in April…It makes no sense why they don’t give Islam Justin Gaethje, why they make him fight vs. Holloway. Khabib Nurmagomedov told MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn in Vancouver

Khabib Nurmagomedov fails to see the point in a ceremonial title fight between Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway. Speaking to MMA coverage journo Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, Holloway recently nudged being down to run for both titles. Facing Gaethje for the “BMF” title, he returns to the lightweight division in over 5 years.

But Nurmagomedov thinks every fighter should maintain a proper chain of title contention. Like featherweight standout Holloway against Ilia Topuria ; and Makhacehv against Gaethje. Only time will tell if those matchups can still take shape.
