UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones made an emphatic statement with his third-round TKO win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 on Saturday night.
Miocic, who many consider to be the greatest heavyweight in UFC history, crumpled to the ground after absorbing a brutal spin-kick to the ribs that handed him just the fourth knockout loss of his 25-fight career.
It was Jones’ sixth straight win, and his second since he moved to heavyweight, and it was the first time in Jones’ career that he finished a fight by kick. Of Jones’ 28 wins, 11 have come by knockout or TKO, 10 of which by punches, and seven others ended by submission.
As vicious as the fight-ending strike looked on television, a video emerged on social media of a cage-side angle that elicited some visceral reactions from fans in disbelief at the ease in which Jones won and the brutality of how he ended the fight.

“Oh my goodness! That kick…sheesh. I hope Stipe is okay, like really. Organ damage? Bone damage? Thought would kill most people,” one fan commented.
“That kick was the sound of a legend being made. Jones truly is in a league of his own,” another added.
“That is one of the most brutal ways to finish a fight. Wow,” a third fan wrote.
“Sounded like a cannon went off Jones really out here defying physics,” one user remarked.
“That kick sounded like a knockout before it even landed!” exclaimed another.
“Sounds like he hit him with a bat,” noted one fan.
Miocic announced his retirement after the fight during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.
The 42-year-old two-time heavyweight champion hadn’t fought in over three years after suffering a knockout loss to Francis Ngannou back in March 2021.
Prior to that, Miocic won eight of his previous nine fights with wins over former champions including Ngannou, Daniel Cormier, Junior Dos Santos, Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum and Andrei Arlovski.
