Salkilld Reveals Knee Pop During Gamrot Submission Win

Quillan Salkilld stopped Mateusz Gamrot with a first-round rear-naked choke at UFC Vegas 120 on Saturday, but the Australian lightweight may have damaged his knee in the process.

Salkilld told reporters at the post-fight press conference that he felt something give during an early grappling exchange when Gamrot torqued his ankle. "He had my ankle and it turned to like 90 degrees," Salkilld said, per MMA Mania. "Because I was being stubborn in that position, I didn't want to accept any bad position [so] I turned into it and forced it."

Salkilld Rushed Finish After Feeling Knee Pop

The No. 9 ranked fighter said he heard a pop during the scramble and felt discomfort even as he locked in the fight-ending choke. "I was like, if I don't get this, my knee's going to be sore later," he explained. The injury concern apparently pushed him to secure the finish quickly rather than risk carrying the damage into later rounds.

The victory over the sixth-ranked Gamrot extends Salkilld's winning streak to 13 fights, including six straight in the UFC. The Australian has now won three times in 2026 alone and appears headed for the top five of the lightweight rankings.

Salkilld said the knee felt sore after the bout but did not specify whether imaging or medical evaluation was planned. Any serious structural damage could sideline the surging contender just as he closes in on a title eliminator.
