Sean Brady Accuses Ian Machado Garry of Ducking Him

Top welterweight contender Sean Brady is growing frustrated with Ian Machado Garry, claiming the Irish fighter has twice backed out of potential matchups that could have headlined UFC events. Brady (18-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) revealed on Instagram that he was contacted for a fight with Machado Garry (16-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) on two separate occasions. According to Brady, both times he accepted immediately but the fights never came together.

“I got a call from my manager right around International Fight Week at the end of June about me and Ian fighting in Chicago,” Brady said. “I said yes. Di dn’t hear anything for weeks. I’m assuming the UFC moved on.

“Recently, they hit us up and said me and Ian, main event in Vancouver. I said yes immediately. Immediately. ‘Yes, let’s go.’ I’ve been wanting to fight since May and these are the only ones I’ve been offered. I said yes twice. Now, I don’t know why Ian’s f*cking dragging his feet or whatever he was doing and now they put in (Reinier de Ridder) and ‘Fluffy’ (Anthony Hernandez). Now once again, we’re sitting and waiting. So thanks Ian. Just lost another main event because of you, my man.”

The Stakes at Welterweight

Brady surged into title contention earlier this year when he dominated and submitted former welterweight champion Leon Edwards in the UFC Fight Night 255 main event in March. Since then, he has remained active in calling out Garry, but the fight has yet to materialize.  Machado Garry, meanwhile, is coming off a high-profile win of his own, having outpointed Carlos Prates in April’s UFC on ESPN 66 main event. The Irishman has built a 9-1 UFC record, but his next move remains unclear. With Reinier de Ridder vs. Anthony “Fluffy” Hernandez now set to headline UFC Vancouver instead, Brady remains without a fight. Whether the UFC revisits his clash with Machado Garry or moves in another direction, Brady made it clear he’s eager to return as soon as possible.
