Sean O'Malley discusses what's next for Joshua Van

Joshua Van has got the entire sport talking.

From almost being scrapped to headlining a huge event, the UFC’s flyweight division has gone through the wringer. The weight class argues for having the greatest fighter of all time in Demetrious Johnson, and another who will rank among the top talents ever in Henry Cejudo. But a new kid on the block is getting everyone’s attention. He’s not only a pure striker with beautiful combinations, but he’s also just 24 years old and loves staying active. If UFC 331 was any indicator, Van is going to become a superstar. Or maybe he already is.

A dominant win over Alexandre Pantoja, one of the division’s greats, has left many in awe. One of those who enjoyed the display is Sean O’Malley, who labeled Van one of his favorites.

“Joshua Van’s got to be one of my favorite guys to watch right now,” O’Malley said. “He’s going to go down as the greatest flyweight of all time. He’s going to go down as possibly one of the best fighters, pound-for-pound, of all time. He’s 24 years old, and he just beat a very dangerous Pantoja.”

After a win over Alexandre Pantoja, what’s next for Joshua Van? Sean O’Malley believes it should be Manel Kape.

“I don’t think many people are going to [give him a war],” O’Malley added. “Tatsuro Taira gave him a war. Pantoja gave him a war. Manel Kape, is he next? I really don’t know the flyweight division. Is Manel Kape? I guess he’s capable of giving him a war like that.”

O’Malley continued.

“Is that fun? Is that exciting? Is that cool?… That is exciting. That’s a fun flyweight title fight. I think it’s going to be hard to beat Van.”
