Former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O'Malley is ready to get back in the octagon. Against whom, when and where remains up in the air.
Rumors have O'Malley linked to a possible showdown with No. 5 ranked Song Yadong at UFC 323 in Las Vegas on Dec. 6. While O'Malley confirmed that nothing is 'offiicial' on his end, he likes the matchup against "The Kung Fu Kid."
"Everyone and their grandmother is sending me the screenshots of Song Yadong versus 'Suga' December 6th. People are saying, 'Yo, congrats. When does fight camp start?' All this and that," O'Malley said on his YouTube channel.
"To be honest, I don’t know what the plan is. There’s nothing official on my side," O'Malley continued. "I haven’t talked to the UFC specifically on who, when, and where. Song seems like a great next opponent, though. I mean, it makes sense. I like the matchup. That seems good.”
The December date would fall in line with when O'Malley wants to return, but he's also be willing to compete as early as November.
"As far as a date goes, December, January, February, f**king November. I'm ready to go," he said. "I'm ready to go. Call me next week, and I'll probably say that's too short notice, but I do like the matchup.
"It makes sense. I'm healthy. I'm feeling good. I'm training like a motherf**ker. And again, I like that matchup. Me versus Song, if that's what's next, hell yeah."
O'Malley last fought at UFC 316 in June, losing to champion Merab Dvalishvili in a rematch. He's currently ranked as the top contender in the division, but has two losses to the titleholder. The road back to a championship fight will require an epic run that can't be denied, or for Dvalishvili to be upended.
Yadong rebounded from a loss to Petr Yan in his last fight, defeating former champion Henry Cejudo in February.
