The UFC Apex in Las Vegas hosted Saturday's UFC on ESPN: Taira vs. Park fight card. The event was headlined by a flyweight bout between No. 6 ranked Tatsuro Taira and Park Hyun-sung.
Taira entered the fight coming off his first career loss. He ended up on the wrong end of a split decision to former title challenger Brandon Royval last October. Park made the walk to the octagon with an undefeated record and looking to show there's a new contender in the flyweight division.
Taira took the center of the cage and worked to establish his jab. He connected with a counter right hand that forced Park to retreat. A followup right hand send Park crashing to the canvas. Taira following him to the ground but Park held on and scrambled to his feet.
Taira kept the pressure on and drug Park back to the canvas. Park stood again and Taira took his back and pulled him back to the ground. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Taira.
Taira changed levels early in the second frame and put Park on his back. He quickly took his back. Taira locked on a rear-naked choke forcing Park to tap out to a face crank.
The official time of the submission stoppage was 1:06 of the second round.
