Conor McGregor has claimed his current UFC contract is “essentially void” following the promotion’s reported $7.7 billion media deal with Paramount, saying the company’s new structure has fundamentally changed the pay-per-view system that once defined his career .
The Irishman made the comments during a live stream with his son, hinting at major upcoming negotiations with the UFC.
McGregor, who has not fought since his 2021 leg injury against Dustin Poirier, has continued to fuel speculation about his return, teasing potential fight dates and venues as the UFC prepares for its next phase under new broadcast terms.
McGregor spoke enthusiastically about his comeback plans while confirming that formal discussions with the UFC are set for next month.
“I’m warming up for the White House fight – I’m going to be at it, for sure,” McGregor said during a live stream “It’s going to be insane, the White House card. We’re going into negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in February.”
While McGregor didn’t specify opponents or dates, his reference to a “White House fight” sent fans into a frenzy online, with many interpreting it as a high-profile event announcement linked to the UFC’s expanding global schedule.
McGregor went on to explain that the UFC’s reported new deal with Paramount, worth $7.7 billion, has reshaped fighter contracts, particularly those tied to the now-obsolete pay-per-view model.
“I’m very interested to go. They’ve actually got a new deal with Paramount worth $7.7billion, so the company has 4X’d its profit.
“My contract is essentially void right now because there’s no more pay-per-view, whereas my contract was based on pay-per-view sales,” McGregor continued.
He added, “I’m the highest-generating pay-per-view fighter of all time – the pay-per-view system is done. I’m due a new contract, so we’re going to go into negotiations in February, and I’m very interested to see how it goes.”
The comments suggest McGregor will push for a revamped deal reflecting his commercial value under the UFC’s new broadcast arrangement. As one of the sport’s most influential figures, his next contract could set a precedent for how the organization compensates its biggest stars in the post-PPV era.
While fans continue to wait for his long-anticipated return to the Octagon, McGregor’s words signal that the next fight may be fought at the negotiation table before he ever steps back into the cage.
