Tito Ortiz has given his take on the current state of the UFC light heavyweight division.
Back in the early 2000s, Tito Ortiz was widely recognised as the top fighter at 205lbs.
Now, Alex Pereira holds that title, following a quick knockout of Magomed Ankalaev back in October.
Ortiz is confident that if he had faced ‘Poatan’ during his prime years, it would have been a straightforward matchup for him.
Ortiz recently appeared on Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson’s podcast, where he was asked about how he would fare against Pereira.
The 50-year-old did not hold back, claiming that a prime vs prime match-up would have been one-sided in his favour.
“I would double-leg the s— out of him. He ain’t stopping, and he ain’t getting away from me. Hell no,” Ortiz told Jackson.
However, not many fans seem to agree with him.
“Tito is hilarious,” one fan wrote, while another simply said: “No.”
A third added: “He’s got too much brain damage from elite strikers in his day to remember how it went with elite strikers in his day.”
“Pfft, no. I was there for his entire career, and NO version of Taco beats AP,” replied another MMA fan.
Pereira is looking to set up a huge fight with Jon Jones, potentially taking place at the White House in June 2026.
With no clear contender at light heavyweight, UFC CEO Dana White could be open to making the fight happen.
Pereira also has the option of facing UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev, who called him out after the Brazilian reclaimed the 205lb title at UFC 320.
This week, ‘Poatan’ and Chimaev agreed to a grappling match under the UFC BJJ banner. But fans are more interested in seeing them meet inside the Octagon.
