Having sat on the sidelines for a year waiting for a matchup that never unfolded, Tom Aspinall can finally resume his career under the UFC banner.

After being promoted to the undisputed heavyweight champion, the Brit has been chomping at the bit to defend his championship status inside the octagon. Believing he's the best fighter in the world at his weight class, the 32-year-old has welcomed all challengers to attempt to pry the gold away from him.

With his dream fight against Jon Jones no longer looking possible due to Jones' retirement uncertainty, Tom Aspinall will have to settle for another opponent in his division.

Several names have been linked with a shot at the heavyweight strap, and reports of an imminent fight announcement are beginning to heat up.

While speaking to UFC veteran Stefan Struve, Aspinall confirmed that fans can expect news on his next opponent shortly.

"Yes [the fight is confirmed], yes it is," Aspinall said. "As far as signed, I can't remember the last time I actually physically signed a contract."

"They just ask me [and] I just say yes. That's it. Usually I sign a contract on fight week. Contracts actually don't mean too much."

"The UFC asks you, you say yes. A verbal contract is all anybody needs from me, so I'm in."

Who's next for Tom Aspinall?

Following his undisputed championship coronation, Tom Aspinall has many options to choose from regarding his first defense of the UFC heavyweight title.

Excluding those in the top 5 that he has already beaten—Alexander Volkov, Sergei Pavlovich, and Curtis Blaydes—two names arguably intrigue fans the most.

Firstly, Tom Aspinall has been on a collision course with Ciryl Gane since their rise to stardom in the division. 'Bon Gamin' currently sits at #1 in the weight class and is riding a two-fight win streak; his most recent defeat coming against Jon Jones.

Another potential name that could be in line for a shot at UFC gold is Brazilian powerhouse Jailton Almeida. The grappling phenom is also on a two-fight win streak, but will first have the task of beating Alexander Volkov in October should he want to compete for the title.
