After last weekend’s heavyweight title fight between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane, the division’s entire landscape shifted dramatically. The bout concluded in the opening round and was ruled a no-contest after Aspinall suffered an unfortunate eye poke. Following this controversial ending, former heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Alex Pereira verbally agreed to face each other next.

After the incident, Pereira quickly stated that he was ready to move up and help save the heavyweight division. Jon Jones immediately responded by accepting Pereira’s bold call-out to potentially fight at the highly anticipated upcoming White House event. All this was pushed by the media as Aspinall vs. Gane failed to impress the fans.

Earlier this year, Jones was accused of avoiding Aspinall for a heavyweight title unification fight before his retirement. However, after Aspinall’s controversial performance at UFC 321, the British fighter seems to have lost significant leverage among fight fans. During a recent podcast, UFC lightweight Renato Moicano explained how both Jones and Pereira benefited from the UFC 321 outcome.

Now ESPN is promoting Jon even more. I think it’s the best thing for Pereira.

Before the bout, Aspinall had talked about potentially welcoming Pereira to the heavyweight division, and Dana White also liked the plan. However, now that Aspinall and Gane are expected to rematch, fans are now drawn toward the Pereira vs. Jones matchup.

White has consistently denied the possibility of Jones fighting at the White House, but the promotional possibility can change things. Jones was also active in mocking Aspinall after UFC 321 by changing his profile picture to a duck with an eye patch. It will be interesting to see how UFC navigates through this heavyweight situation with the White House event next year.

Beating Jon Jones could elevate Alex Pereira’s GOAT status

Alex Pereira has firmly established himself as one of the most dangerous fighters in the UFC with incredible knockout power. His rise began when he captured the middleweight championship, showcasing elite striking skills against some of the division’s toughest opponents.

After conquering middleweight, Pereira moved up to light heavyweight, where he continued his dominance and claimed the championship. He successfully defended his light heavyweight belt multiple times, proving his consistency, adaptability, and championship mentality across different weight divisions.

In his rematch against Magomed Ankalaev , Pereira entered as the underdog but shocked everyone by finishing the Russian in one round. Now, Pereira has set his sights on heavyweight glory, aiming to make history by challenging himself against the very best.

A fight against Jon Jones represents not only a massive opportunity but a potential career-defining moment for the Brazilian powerhouse. Daniel Cormier has long discussed this matchup, believing that defeating Jones would significantly elevate Pereira’s already legendary legacy.

If he went to beat Jon Jones at heavyweight, Alex Pereira, who’s already considered one of the greatest fighters of all time, in the most expedited timeline I have ever seen, would literally cement himself to almost stand above everyone because he would have beaten a former UFC light heavyweight champion and heavyweight champion, and a guy many consider as the greatest of all time.

For Jon Jones, competing in the heavyweight division represents more than a fight; it’s a testament to his patriotic pride. The chance to perform in front of U.S. President Donald Trump adds significant motivation for Jones to deliver a historic performance.

A victory in this fight would further solidify Jones’ legacy as one of the greatest and most accomplished fighters in MMA. Many experts have started making assumptions about who will win between Jones and the knockout specialist Alex Pereira.
