Tom Aspinall is playing roulette with his UFC career, and Dana White only likes baccarat

Tom Aspinall’s UFC career is now on borrowed time and he risks never fighting under the banner again.

131 days ago, the UFC heavyweight champion looked to finally spark the division back into life with his first undisputed title defense against Ciryl Gane.

He was met with two fingers, directly into his eye socket and almost tickling his brain, leading to what has now been five months on the sidelines nursing continuous injuries and surgeries.

And just as Tom Aspinall once again sparked hope into the fanbase by teasing some big news, no sooner did he write his own obituary, marking what could be the death of his career in the sport.

Tom Aspinall’s UFC career could be over after signing with Eddie Hearn

This Thursday afternoon, combat sports fans were rocked by the news that Aspinall has signed a deal with Eddie Hearn, current number one rival of Dana White.

Although the news initially comes as quite refreshing in terms of White getting a taste of his own medicine, I fear the bull’s horns have been tugged.

Throughout this period of Aspinall being sidelined due to, let’s be fair, extremely serious and life-changing injuries, he has lacked support from White.

Actually, not only has his UFC boss been unsupportive of him in the media, he has attempted to create a narrative that the British heavyweight champion is playing on his injuries.

That, was strike one.

After attempting to gain a House Edge over Aspinall, White only rattled the most athletic heavyweight fighter of his generation.

It feels as though there is only one way this story goes, and we have seen it unfold time and time again.

Hearn and White have been at loggerheads with each other for some time now, and things aren’t improving, they’re only getting more and more bitter.

The Matchroom Boxing promoter’s job will likely be to get Aspinall as much money as possible in negotiations, if it even gets that far.

White, who is notoriously stubborn in situations like this, could outright refuse to deal with Hearn, which could result in an old-fashioned standoff between the dealer and the punter.

Francis Ngannou and Randy Couture to just name a few, know exactly how this plays out.

The heavyweight division at this point is plagued. And rumors continue to swirl of a potential fight between Jon Jones and Alex Pereira, which could once again frustrate Aspinall.

The status of that fight is still currently unknown, and it is unknown whether it will come with title implications.

That, is strike two.

With Aspinall and his father having previously spoken about a possible future transition to boxing, this could be the foundation well and truly laid.

I fear that the 32-year-old is in for a long period of inactivity, and not just because of his injury, but because of the notorious stubbornness of White.

Actually, never mind a few months of inactivity, I fear that Aspinall could’ve fought his final fight in the UFC.
