Tom Aspinall has picked a side in the ongoing Jon Jones vs UFC drama.

The greatest MMA fighter of all time requested his release from the UFC on Monday.

Jon Jones made the demand after being left off the UFC White House card, which he was desperate to be a part of.

Tom Aspinall: Why is the UFC not giving Jon the respect he deserves financially?

Dana White publicly claimed that Jon Jones was ‘never ever’ going to fight on the June 14 event.

The 38-year-old has since revealed he got a ‘lowball offer’ in a lengthy statement, which ended with him asking to be released from his UFC contract.

Tom Aspinall gave his thoughts on the situation during an interview with Ariel Helwani.

“This is probably going to be crazy to a lot of people listening, but why is the UFC not giving Jon the respect he deserves financially? That’s crazy to me,” the UFC heavyweight champion said.

“If anyone should be getting paid a lot in this sport, it should be Jon Jones for the stuff he’s done. And that’s me saying that after the history I’ve had with Jon Jones. If anybody should be getting money in this sport, it’s Jon Jones.

“They offered him $30 million to fight me, so why haven’t they offered it to him again?

“We’re talking about Conor McGregor and Jon Jones, those are the guys who’ve brought in revenue for over 10 years. They need to be getting paid what they deserve, in my opinion.”

Tom Aspinall’s rivalry with Jon Jones explained

Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones became rivals when the Englishman captured the interim heavyweight title in November 2023.

‘Bones’ showed no interest in unifying the division when he returned from the injury that created the need for a secondary belt.

Instead, Jones ended up fighting Stipe Miocic, whom he KO’d in three rounds at UFC 309 in November 2024.

During a post-fight interview, the American legend distanced himself from a fight with Aspinall.

The English fan favorite began a campaign to try to shame Jones into agreeing to face him.

It almost worked when Jones accepted a $30 million UFC offer to make the fight happen.

Dana White was furious when Jones reneged on the deal and temporarily retired from MMA.

Almost a year later, the pair’s relationship is at an all-time low after their public back-and-forth and Jones requesting his release.
