After a disastrous end to the UFC Vegas 110 co-main event between Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Ante Delija last week, the Croatian fighter has filed a formal complaint to the commission.

Coming into the fight off the back of a successful promotion debut, Ante Delija was looking to immediately crack the top seven of the heavyweight division against Waldo Cortes-Acosta.

Despite that, the UFC Vegas 110 co-main event ended in disaster as just moments after Delija thought he’d scored the knockout, the fight was restarted because of an eye poke and he was knocked out moments after.

And now just a week removed from the situation, ‘Walking Trouble’ has lodged a formal complaint with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, claiming that the situation wasn’t handled correctly.

Delija told UFC Vegas 110 stoppage was handled ‘perfectly’

According to Uncrowned Combat, Delija’s team filed a formal complaint to the NSAC, requesting a hearing on the matter.

The Croatian’s team is requesting that the result be changed to a no-contest due to a ‘clear rules violation’ at the hands of the officials.

Delija’s attorney, Ross Goodman said: “This is unprecedented. This is why I’m trying to get the commission to look at this. This is bigger than Ante, bigger than this one event. It’s about, guys, are you going to follow your rules?”

However, despite Goodman’s comments and the formal complaint, NSAC executive director Jeff Mullen has stated that the commission did follow its own rules, even if the rules differed from the unified ruled of MMA, claiming it was handled ‘perfectly’.

Although referee Mark Smith stepped in and seemingly stopped the fight, he didn’t officially wave it off at the time. Despite that, Goodman believes that because the official replay was used, the fight should’ve been stopped.

Delija likely to be unsuccessful with his complaint after comments

With Mullen’s comments seemingly backing that Smith did the correct thing, it is likely that ‘Walking Trouble’s’ complaint will go nowhere and he will likely be unsuccessful with his claim.

Since the fight, Cortes-Acosta has called out Delija’s teammate Tom Aspinall, whose title defense at UFC 321 also ended in disaster because of an eye poke.
