UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria will reportedly appear at the Court of Violence Against Women in Móstoles, Spain, on January 7.
This follows a filing by his estranged wife, Giorgina Uzcategui Badell, who has accused the fighter of “domestic and gender violence,” as well as “injuries and family abuse.” Topuria has denied these claims, claiming that he has been a victim of an attempted extortion plot.
“In recent months I have suffered intolerable situations and pressures, threatening to spread unfounded accusations of mistreatment that would only disappear in exchange for money, but the truth only has one path: the facts. All of them are perfectly documented – audios, messages, testimonies and videos – and are being made available to the courts to proceed legally not only for attempted extortion, but also for falsification of evidence, theft of money and personal belongings, as well as for all the threats received.
“I have tried to remain silent to protect my children, who are the pillars of my life, but I have understood that silence is no longer protection: it is allowing the lie to continue to grow… I have to take a step forward and be an example that no one should give in to pressure, manipulation or fear. Those who know me know that I have never exercised violence against anyone and that my values have always been those of respect, discipline and honesty,” Topuria said
The primary focus of the January 7 hearing will address the custody and welfare of the couple’s infant daughter. The child is currently residing with Badell and her grandmother. The ongoing legal battle has already had a major impact on the UFC’s lightweight division. Topuria has taken a leave of absence for at least the first quarter of 2026.
This led the UFC to book an interim title fight between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje for UFC 324 on January 24. Adding another layer of controversy, UFC commentator Joe Rogan was reportedly named in the broader complaint after he allegedly shared a doctored image of Badell on his podcast.
