Arman Tsarukyan and Sharaputdin Magomedov fought to a draw in the main event of Hype Fighting Championship, as neither fighter was able to get over the line.
The fight had been hyped up based on a bet they had taken. Tsarukyan promised to give Magomedov an apartment in Yerevan if he won, while the latter promised a Rolex in return if he lost. The fighters had different goals entering this fight. Tsarukyan has made it clear that he is staying active, stating that he wants to be back up for the UFC Interim Lightweight Title fight between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett.
Those two face off at UFC 324 on January 24. The winner would be in a position to challenge the current champion Ilia Topuria, as Arman is desperate for a title shot. As for Magomedov, it offered him the chance to test his skills against the number-one ranked contender in the lightweight division.
Arman had submitted Mehdi Baydulaev this month, as he started as the agressor. He managed to get two takedowns to seize control. However, “Shara Bullet” lived up to his reputation for his toughness. Using his reach advantage, Magomedov stayed calm under pressure, shutting down Tsarukyan’s hunt for a finish. While Tsarukyan controlled the positioning, he couldn’t find the submission.
