UFC Cuts Ranked Heavyweight After Losing 'Horrible' Fight

The UFC made two roster subtractions on Monday and both moves hit the promotion's heavyweight division. Apparently, the stakes were higher than we expected at UFC Saudi Arabia.

According to Roster Watch , on Monday, February 3, the UFC parted ways with No. 9 heavyweight Jairzinho Rozenstruik and the unranked Jamal Pogues. Both men lost decisions on Saturday as part of UFC Saudi Arabia.

Pogues' loss was controversial as he dramatically out-landed Hamdy Abdelwahab through three rounds, but the judges egregiously awarded the latter the split-decision win.

Rozenstruik lost a unanimous decision to No. 4 Sergei Pavlovich in what Dana White called a "horrible fight" during his post-event presser. White's breakdown happens at the  1:50 mark of the presser.

White wasn't off the mark with his assessment. The two heavyweights kept things agonizingly safe, and Rozenstruik never seemed to get out of neutral. Pavlovich seemed content to coast to an easy win, though neither man looked impressive in the fight.

The Saudi crowd is usually very polite, but even they booed Pavlovich and Rozenstruik. With Rozenstruik's departure from the UFC, expect to see his name pop up in rumors connecting him to the Professional Fighters League and the newly formed Global Fight League.

At 36, a return to the UFC doesn't seem likely, even if he strings a few wins together. Pogues is just 29—which is really young for the division—so a return isn't out of the question. We'll see where each man lands moving forward.
